LooniePie ("we," "us," "our") is a gamified AI math tutoring platform for Ontario students in Grades 4–9. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how it's handled. It applies to the LooniePie web application and marketing site.
LooniePie uses a parent-owns-account model. A parent or guardian creates and controls the account using their own email address and password. Students do not create independent logins — they access the platform through lightweight profiles created and managed by the parent within that single account. The parent is the person who provides consent for their child's use of the platform and who can view, edit, or delete their child's information at any time.
From the parent: email address and password (used only for account login).
For each student profile: a display name or nickname (we do not require a full legal name), grade level, and a character/theme the student selects within the app. We do not collect student birthdates, home addresses, or student email addresses.
Usage data: quiz answers and results, chat messages sent to the AI tutor, points and streaks earned, and general activity timing used to show parents an estimate of time spent learning.
Photos, if voluntarily uploaded: a student may choose to photograph a homework problem and send it to the AI tutor for help. These photos are automatically screened for genuine math content before being stored — a photo that isn't math-related is never saved. Photos that are stored are visible to the parent on their dashboard, and are automatically deleted after 30 days.
Feedback you send us: if a parent submits feedback, a question, or a bug report through the app, we collect the message itself, the category selected, and the parent's email address (so we can reply directly).
We use the information above to operate the tutoring service itself: running the AI chat tutor, scoring quizzes, tracking streaks and progress, showing parents an accurate picture of their child's learning, and responding to feedback or questions parents send us. We do not use student information to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell personal information to third parties.
LooniePie relies on a small number of third-party service providers to operate:
Anthropic (Claude AI): when a student chats with the AI tutor or attaches a homework photo, that content is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate a response. This is how the AI tutoring itself works. Anthropic processes this content to provide the response; it is not used by us for advertising.
Supabase: our database and file storage provider, hosting account information, student profiles, usage records, and uploaded photos.
Resend: our transactional email provider, used to deliver certain email communications — for example, notifying us when a parent submits feedback through the app, so we can follow up.
When you create a parent account, you can choose whether to receive optional email communications from us, such as progress updates about your child. This preference can be changed at any time. We do not sell or share your email address with any third party for their own marketing purposes. Any commercial email we send includes a way to unsubscribe.
Homework photos are automatically deleted 30 days after they're uploaded. We recognized that photos of a child's handwriting are more sensitive than points or quiz scores, and built an automated deletion schedule specifically for them rather than keeping them indefinitely.
We're being direct about the rest, rather than overstating what's built: other information (quiz results, points, streaks, and account details) does not yet have an automated deletion schedule, and is retained until a parent requests deletion or closes their account. We may extend automated retention limits to more data types in the future.
As the account owner, a parent can at any time: view all information associated with their student profiles, rename or remove a student profile, view any homework photo their child has shared with the AI tutor within the last 30 days (see Data Retention above), and request deletion of their account and all associated data by contacting us.
Access to the parent-facing dashboard (progress reports and photo history) is itself protected — either by a math challenge or an optional PIN the parent sets — specifically so that a student using the same device cannot view this information without the parent's involvement.
Access to account data is restricted using database-level access controls, so that each parent account can only read its own family's data — not other families' information. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we've designed the data model so that access is scoped by default, not granted broadly and restricted after the fact.
LooniePie does not use third-party advertising trackers or sell data to ad networks. The app records its own internal usage events (like quiz attempts and chat activity) solely to power the features described above — progress tracking, streaks, and the parent dashboard.
LooniePie is designed for use by children in Grades 4–9 under the direct oversight of a parent or guardian, who creates the account and controls their child's profile. We do not knowingly collect information directly from a child independent of a parent-controlled account.
We may update this policy as the platform changes — for example, when payment processing is added. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do. Significant changes affecting how children's information is handled will be communicated directly to account holders.
